                                      Changes at ASHI

Changes at the American Safety and Health Institute

When you're finished changing, you're finished.”

 -Benjamin Franklin

We’re not finished changing—and the best is yet to come!

As you know, there have been some big changes at ASHI in the past year and a half. The 2005 changes in CPR and first aid guidelines generated comprehensive program revisions in our training materials. These changes have affected everyone at ASHI, our Training Centers, instructors, customers, and partners. There have been a few missteps along the way, but overall, we have gotten through it together. We sincerely appreciate your business and the confidence you have placed in us during this challenging update year.

But, bigger changes were yet to come. As you may have heard through the industry “grapevine,” ASHI was acquired by the Riverside Company in July 2006. In November 2006, Riverside also acquired MEDIC FIRST AID International. As a result, Riverside, a private investment firm, now owns two companies that provide nationally recognized, high-quality, high-value health and safety certification programs. This benefits both organizations. Senior Riverside personnel and experienced executives now serve on our board of directors. They actively participate in helping ASHI and MEDIC FIRST AID set and achieve goals and implement positive change. The ASHI and MEDIC FIRST AID executive management team maintain day-to-day operational control and along with our great staff are now working closely together to improve our processes and build even stronger organizations.

In addition, ASHI is moving its main operations, including the warehouse, to the Cleveland, Ohio area. This move is in progress and will be finalized by the end of January or early February 2007. The new address and contact information will be available very soon. Core personnel will be staying with the organization, providing leadership continuity. The move to Cleveland will allow ASHI to create better operational efficiencies for our Training Centers throughout the US. MEDIC FIRST AID headquarters will remain in Eugene, Oregon.

Although there undoubtedly will be some challenges in the next few months, it is the goal of ASHI to continue to maintain and serve our distinct customer base and to focus on “business as usual”. We believe there are some great opportunities and advantages ahead for the business partners, dedicated instructors, and loyal customers of ASHI.

We appreciate your patience and your continued confidence in us as we move forward. Our goal is to work hard to enhance and improve our products, services, support, and ultimately, our value to you.  Thank you for your continued support of the American Safety and Health Institute.
